It is advised to book in advance during the high season and in July and August.
Driving licence
Most of the driving licence notably those delivered in Europe and America are recognized in Costa Rica. The minimum age required to rent a car is 21 year-old (there is no age limit). The licence must have been delivered for at least 3 years.
Credit card
It is essential to own an up-to-date credit card to rent a car.
Most of the international credit cards are accepted in Costa Rica.
Basic Insurance
The basic insurance CDW is compulsory in Costa Rica. It is included in our fares with a deductible of about $750 according to the model of the vehicle and the car rental company.
Supplemental Insurance with Zero Deductible
Supplemental Insurance with zero deductible is strongly recommended.
This complementary insurance "Full Cover” has an additional cost of $12 per day to pay directly with the car rental company. It covers 100% of all the damages of the rented car except the tires and the robbery of luggage or personal objects (or 80% in the case of an accident linked with the driver’s responsibility). It is possible to buy back the potential 20% left with the third Party Property Damage Insurance: $3 per day to pay directly with the car rental company.
Guarantee
You will have to leave a print of your credit card as a deposit before taking delivery of your car. The deductible of $750 will be locked during the length of the renting or only $100 if you bought the complementary insurance.
