D1 - San José / El Copal
Meeting in San José at 1 pm and departure by bus to Cartago and then Tucurrique. Small walk to access El Copal Reserve. Settling in a rustic lodge wonderfully located in the heart of the forest alongside Tapantí National Park. Warm welcome from Beto and Patricia, sugar cane producers and architects of this authentic ecolodge. Meals and night at the lodge.
D2 – El Copal / Tapantí
Walk in the reserve famous for its ornithological diversity. Visit of a traditional « trapiche » producing sugar cane. Start of the hike to Tapantí from a mountain trail (5 hours walk). Settling in a small family lodge close to the entrance of the park. Meals and accommodation at the lodge.
D3 – Tapantí / San José
Visit of Tapantí National Park, front door of a huge mountain area covered by forests hosting Costa Rica’s big fauna : tapirs, felines… After a picnic by Orosí River, return to San José by bus. Arrival around 5 pm.
